Don't Be Afraid: You Have Been Redeemed

Isaiah 43: 1-7, 11

Vs 1- But now, this is what the Lord, your Creator says, He who formed you,

Do not fear, for I have redeemed you. I have called you by name; you are Mine.

Vs 2 - When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they will not overwhelm you. When you walk through fire, you will not be scorched, Nor will the flame burn you.

Vs 3 - I am the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Redeemer And I've given Egypt as your ransom, Cush (ancient Ethiopia) and the people of Seba (its province) in exchange for you.

Vs 4 - Since you're precious in my sight and honored, and because I love you, I'm giving up people in your place, and nations in exchange for your life.

Vs 5-7 - Don't be afraid, for I am with you; I'll bring your children from the east, and gather you from the west. I'll say to the north, "Give them up'! and to the south, "Don't keep them back!' Bring my sons from far away and my daughters from the ends of the earth
everyone who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made.

Vs 11- Yes I AM the LORD, and apart from me there is no other savior.

What is the definition of redeemed?  Webster’s says:

·      To buy back, to free from captivity by paying a ransom

·      To repair or restore

·      To remove an obligation

·      To exchange something of value

·      To extricate from something that is detrimental

·      To release from blame or debt

·      To free from the consequences of sin

Today’s Prayer:

Dear Lord, Your Word says in so many places that You will do it all for US...if we are His Children and called by His name. We won’t be afraid of what’s coming, no matter what that is. We will steadfastly cling to you thorough Your Word. We will be bold in the world and all will know that we are Your children, Your chosen ones, the Children you have extricated from sin and released from blame. We are grateful Lord for the Blood of Jesus.

Lord, it is simple, even easy, to lean on You and happily claim to be Christian when times are easy. But when the going gets tough, we learn the lessons of trust. We learn to trust Your Word, Your Truth and release the fear... however it is defined. Thank you Lord for the lessons we learn from sharing this time together....and collectively calling on You for strength, for courage, for patience, for protection. We pray for our families, our friends, our country. Lord pour out Your mercy and heal the divisiveness in our land. Keep us from descending into the Valley of the Shadow of death and war. And yet Lord, we beseech you that Thy Will be done in our lives and in our country. We petition You Lord for all these things...this or something better. In Jesus name, Amen.

Set Your Hope On Christ

September 29, 2020 - LISTEN HERE - with special Guest David Block

1 Peter 1:13

Therefore, prepare your minds for action, keep a sober spirit, and fix your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at His coming.

The Bible records two letters written by Peter to encourage the early Christians who were scattered across what is now mostly modern-day Turkey. They were discouraged and they were being persecuted for their faith (v6). He wrote to remind them how God had blessed them through the gift of his Son and the Word of the Lord, which endures forever.

Recall the word hope, when used in the Bible, means to have confidence, to have security, to expect, and to anticipate.

The word grace, mentioned more than 150 times in the Bible, means the unmerited, unearned love and favor of God.

Let’s read that verse again:

Therefore, prepare your minds for action, keep a sober spirit and fix your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed.

.....And then, let’s read it with the definitions:

Therefore, with your minds readied for action, be serious, and set your confidence and security on the unearned love and favor of God, which was brought to you with great anticipation.

How powerfully encouraging is that!

Today’s Prayer:
Dear Lord, our confidence and trust is in You. We learn more about the magnificent gift of Your son and our Salvation each time we dig deeply into Your Word. We marvel at the stories and lessons that were given to Your early church – 2000 years ago – that are as relevant today as they were every day over the last 730,000 days. Help us to fix our gaze on Christ Jesus, no matter what worries or circumstances we have that are trying to distract us. Let us be confident that His ways will fulfill the purpose He has for us in our life. Thy will be done. In Jesus Name, Amen.
